Sony and Their New Game

I was looking up some things and reading some news on yahoo.com and ironically came across a title that kind of struck me as perfect for this class: Feminists cry foul over Fat Princess. Sony is coming up with a new game called Fat Princess. The premise of this game is a sort of capture the flag type of game. I know that this idea is not nearly as serious as other issues being discussed in this bolg but I thought I would post this to kind of put up a not as serious topic. The idea behind this game is to take a princess who starts off as skinny and attempt to fatten her up by giving her cake in the game so that she is harder to haul off. The article was not very long but some of the things I found interesting. They said that a couple of feminist web sites have already made statements about the degrading aspect of the game. One person made quite the statement about the premise of the game but it is a little too much to put up here. The head director of the game had a comment to the affect that a woman designed a good amount of the concept. I guess i was just curious as to what you guys may think about this. There is not much to the article but let me know what you gys think.

This is so hard to believe. I am not even sure a game like this would sell very much. I can't even begin to imagine who would come up with a game like this. There are so many women who for so long have struggled with weight issues and for someone to create such a degrading game is just so upsetting. What is even harder to believe is that a woman actually worked on the project(If that is even true).

It would be interesting to see the woman who designed the game- what her stature is and her level of self-confidence. Our society has been putting so much emphasis on having a perfectly skinning body instead of wellness. No wonder girls become anorexic because girls are mocked when they eat! I agree with Brittany, I bet this game will become a non-issue because I can't imagine it will sell.

Not sure. I think this game is going to sell (as long as it has cool graphics and a plot). We hear about the rise of childhood obesity maybe this game can be directed to show how overeating can affect their health.

There are all sorts of games surrounding the physical aspects of women. I haven't seen any issues regarding the Brats game, Hannah Montana, or even Barbie. There are games to change our hair, eye and even skin color.

Today, you can go online and virtually change your appearance. To me these are just games, while in bad taste, we still have the 1st amendment, for good, bad and the ugly.

Regardless if a man or woman came up with the game's concept. I really don't think it matters. I rather see this kind of energy put towards a more meaningful feminism issue.
